Performance, approval and structure
Early in life, I learnt that high performance brought love, approval and a sense of achievement.
As long as life had a clear syllabus, fixed timelines, exams, and visible markers of success, I knew how to perform. I followed the structure. I worked hard. I became a university topper and gold medalist in MSc (Honours) Human Genetics.
Structure made achievement feel possible. But life was slowly preparing me for spaces where no syllabus existed.
